Autumn Comes To Our Valley

img_0187

It’s so beautiful here in October, I confess it’s exceedingly hard to sit down at the computer and tear myself away from the array of glorious scenes right outside my windows.  Ohio has a bit of mercy on her inhabitants and before the winter winds begin to blast in earnest, before the skies turn a leaden gray for months on end, there is a brief interlude of grace given to we mere northern mortals.  Ah, and so we’re lulled into thinking these crystal clear bright days and sapphire blue skies will last, but those of us who’ve experience weathering her fierce winters are not so easily fooled!

The gorgeous old Sycamore that helps break the winds that come down from Canada with a vengeance.  They’re called “Noreasters” and not for the faint of heart.  One of the fellows who cleared this land when we built the house had almost a wrestling match with me over this tree in particular.  “Oh, it’s just a common thing, let me clear this hill off for you lady!” and I stood in front of the beautiful red-leaved thing and despite the head-shaking disgust of our bulldozer driver, managed to keep this grand companion who has been a blessing every season since then.

One of my favorite views is from the upstairs back window, this tree has paid me back liberally for those efforts, faithfully putting on a show to reward for that small kindness.

The view from the top of the hill facing north, again, looking toward Canada, our road down into the peaceful valley where our farm is situated.

What a beautiful show we’ve had this autumn, some of the gorgeous old maples on our road.

And we can’t neglect to mention the Oak trees for they too are spectacular this year!

Oh, but the Sugar Maples, the trees of my childhood, the most wonderful colors of all.

Agatha’s been spinning in circles trying to keep the cleanup crew on task.  They do leave a lot to be desired in the way of focus and keeping paws firmly on the job at hand!

We’ve all been enjoying the leaves this year, some little people seem to get confused as to how to get all those leaves in ONE spot!

img_1243

I hope this finds you and your own two and four-footed companions enjoying your most beautiful fall ever, don’t forget to find a roadside stand and get some fresh cider and a few powdered donuts to celebrate the beauty of the season.  I’ll share some of the country roads around these parts next post, and Agatha says to tell everyone she’ll be doing her best to get this all raked up in the meantime!

What are your favorite bits that surround the season?  Not all of us are witness to such an extravagant display, how do you celebrate in your corner of the world?

Warmest Wags,

terry & agatha

Gorgeous, gorgeous. Here in Florida we don’t get that glorious color but we do get glorious weather. Things start to cool off, we lose that awful humidity and all the winter visitor’s from your part of the country start to come down. The puppies get more energetic with the first touch of cool weather and start running around the yard chasing each other. I wish you could see your Oliver in action. He is the joy of everyone that meets him. He is 5 pounds of adorableness. He never got any bigger but his personality is 50 pounds of adorableness.
Have a wonderful winter. Hope it does not get too cold.

Oh Susan, John & I were married on the beach in Florida so I’ve experienced those balmy warm winters! I remember my first arrival one January to Jacksonville, a friend drove me around in her little convertible, it felt like we were on a wonderful holiday lol! I couldn’t believe how lovely it was! Give hugs to that precious Oliver and tell him Agatha say’s hello!
    Affectionate Wags!

Once again Terri I have opened up my email excited to hear what you had to write about! And once again I am not disappointed! As Autumn is my favorite time of the year, oh how I would enjoy seeing the area you live in, what breathtaking scenery! All of the trees and my favorite the sugar maple because of a book I was given “Maple Sugar for Wendy Foot” about a horse named Wendy Foot and her owners going to the maple sugar trees to tap for maple sugar. It was and still is one of my favorite books that Has now been passed down thru my daughter and granddaughter and will be given to my new great grandbaby that I just found out about yesterday! I especially love to watch the pups romp in the newly fallen leaves with Miss Agetha. Again, thank you for sharing your stories and I will look forward to the next, still hoping to see the children’s book that you were thinking about writing! Best wishes from me and Molly, your little Autumn Leaves who turned 4 years old in July, this year.

Sweet friend Gail, oh how lovely to find your letter hidden in plain view! So sorry not to have replied to such a generous and kindly friend as you have been to me! Congratulations on that darling great grandbaby that will learn to love those books and the grandmother who shares them with her. Honey, part of the reason for my neglect of my much loved “Letters” is that I’ve got not one but TWO books almost ready to publish! Terribly excited and I’ll have a copy of each winging it’s way to you so you can tell those little people all about Foxglove and the little folk who live here. Hugs and more hugs from Agatha & me to you and sweet Molly too!

Good afternoon Terri and thank you so much for taking time out to answer my email! I am so excited to get your new books and please I certainly will buy them, just let me know when finished! We are having the most beautiful fall weather finally. It came fery late just this week. Molly and I go for walks everyday and she gets absolutely excited when I tell her we are going. She knows exactly the time when we go in the morning and evenings and will absolutely get my attention by getting up on me, rolling over on her back for belly rubs, licking on me, anything to get my attention to get her halter on her for a walk!
I praythat you and your family will have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays! I am looking forward to ours, Molly has three new Christmas dresses this year. I will try to send pictures. I have a beautiful picture we had made at the studio which I will send if you send me your mailing address at your home.
Again, I look forward to your letters and seeing the new pups as well as Ms. Agetha. Buy the way, Molly love the probiotics..I sprinkle on her food every morning and she eats it as well as licks the remaining powder that drops thru her food. I do have one question…my vet has Molly on Royal Canine urunary prescription food which she loves but it has corn in it, she seems to be somewhat allergic to grains, she was showing a few crystals in her tests so she has eaten this food for about a year now. I had her previously on blue buffalo grain free which she liked also. Do you think this Royal Canine prescription food is okay or do you recommend a better urinary food for that problem? Have a beautiful weekend,
        Gail and Molly
