My favorite season is upon us at Foxglove Farm; even Agatha seems to enjoy the beautiful early mornings as we make the rounds to see what’s blooming in the garden and which of our favorite birds are back with us for the summer.
I’ve been so busy with the puppies, and now since Agatha’s Apothecary takes much of my time, I’d just about decided that this year I just couldn’t spare much time for the flowers and little bird garden I’ve been working on for the last couple of seasons. All it took was the glorious appearance of the Peonies and my other faithful perennials to discard that nonsense! How could I not take the time to enjoy the fruit of previous years labors? The flowers have been just beautiful, and I’m glad that my early mornings are spent OUTSIDE and not peering at the latest item topping my To-Do List!
The old bird feeder has seen better days, but the birds don’t seem to mind, and I love its classic lines and vintage charm. The Bluebirds have decided it’s one of their favorite spots to keep watch over their tiny babies hidden in the little birdhouse that stands just a few feet away.
I’ve promised myself a post or two devoted to the Bluebirds, they have had quite a struggle but I’m happy to say that with some help from Agatha & I, they have raised several broods of the most endearing little fuzzy babies you’ll ever see. They have become almost tame, not even flying away when I come out to sit with my coffee. That tale will have to wait, but suffice to say that even Agatha knows they are our friends and at a word from me she charges out to chase off any real (or imagined) menaces to our small friends.
If you look carefully, you can see the male Bluebird on top of his house. It’s literally only about 20 feet from the kitchen door, I have amazing stories of these gorgeous and exceptionally friendly little birds. Agatha watches carefully for bluebird dangers, she really is a grand little pocket protector of all the little people at Foxglove Farm. She might only lick some of the offenders but at least she tries to look fierce.
I’ll explain all the streamers in another post, I’ve become a reluctant expert on how to keep them safe!
And so with a few peeks at the bird garden I’m determined to enjoy,,, I hope this finds you enjoying your summer, whether it be full of bluebirds or perhaps the beach or the mountains or maybe just a good book out in the hammock. Go find some lemons and fix a nice glass of lemonade and sit a spell and rest yourself!
Warmest Wags,
Terry & Agatha
(& Mr & Mrs Bluebird too!)
Terry, your garden is beautiful. I have enjoyed my backyard this year and watching the birds. Charlie (Jingle) is so precious and such a sweet companion. We are so happy we have him. He is doing great and has added a lot of joy to our lives. He loves taking walks and riding in the golf cart. He sleeps beside me every night and is a great snuggler. He and Lacie (my 12 year old Maltese) are getting along and are constant companions. Thank you for sharing your stories with me. I love reading them. Love to you and Agatha. Connie Canon
I’ll send a recent picture if Charlie.
Oh Connie, That Jingle was just the most adorable baby, he was a snuggle bug then too! I love that he’s fast friends with your Lacie, he’ll help keep her young! I’d love a photo of grown up Charlie!
Agatha sends wags!
I left an emai. Today is Halo and Parkers 6 month birthday. They have played together several times and
Love each other. Halo weighs 11 pounds Parker probably 2 pounds less. Is she the older puppy? How many in that litter?
Who is luckier puppies or us?
Hi Anne, I know they love getting to have play dates, it’s amazing how they just instantly pick up where they left off! Agatha plays with everyone EXCEPT poor Max the neighbor’s sweet Golden Retriever who she thinks is public enemy #1! (I found your email & answered there too : )
Love to read your stories!
Hi David, I’m so glad, it amazes me that people enjoy them, I know I love writing them! Take good care and hugs to that puppy guy!
Just beautiful
Thank you sweet Toby!
Dear Terry – Having had my quiet time & morning devotional, I was blessed to find your new post of summer in my email. The tangible world still reflects His Glory to those who have eyes that see & ears that hear! Although a somewhat gloomy day I can hear and see beautiful Cardinals out my kitchen window, the slightest breeze noticed. “Be still and know that I am God” swells within me.
Thank you for reminding me of all things lovely & beautiful with your words & delightful pictures! I look forward to your next observation & know you are appreciated.
In his hands – Susan
Dear Susan, Isn’t God good to us? It’s amazing how He attends to the smallest details, I’ve even asked Him to help me take amazing photographs so I can share this beautiful place we call Foxglove Farm. Sometimes when I pick up the camera, I just know the tiny visitor that poses for me is sent by His hand. This is still a lovely world, we just have to look harder to see it…
Pictures of,the blue birds are amazing!!! Love having birds in my yard and have a nest in our patio covering this year! Your peonies, irises and other perennials are sooo pretty! The garden is one of my favorite places. Have a great rest of the summer!!!
Thanks Doris, I LOVE the bluebirds, we have been fostering them for about 7 years now, they think we are related I think! Have a lovely summer too!
Your garden is gorgeous and the peonies magnificent and the bird stream is wonderful. Yes, you must take time to enjoy in your garden……how could you not? I love puttering around in my garden and vegetable beds, I think there’s something about being outdoors and digging in the dirt that has a calming, relaxing effect on me. Enjoy your summer.
Oh Susie, I do love the garden, I’m actually writing this from my vantage point in the back garden overlooking the large pond (that matches the small one out front!) I obviously don’t have enough to do! Hug those babies for me and tell Miss Tootie I KNEW she’d love a friend!
Dearest Terry, What a gift you are. Your photos and observations are so beautiful. I look forward to your letters from Foxglove.
